The former Chesterfield manager has ambitions to carry on Pompey’s progress.

And he is already eying up his 200th game in the Fratton Park hot seat.

‘As a manager, the most important thing is looking forward,’ said Cook.

‘You must think long term. Even in the climate we are in today.

‘A managers job is to leave the club in a better position than when they took over.

‘I view Portsmouth Football Club as very much a work in progess.

‘To have 100 games I’m pleased with.

‘But hopefully I would like to be here when we have 200 games.

‘That would mean we have had a bit more success than we’ve had now.’
