Cook: Pompey were a million miles away from what's expected

Paul Cook branded his side '˜a million miles' from that which destroyed Barnet on Saturday.

And he admitted Pompey fully deserved being on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat at Blackpool tonight.

Individual defensive errors were to blame as Kelvin Mellor, Brad Potts and Kyle Vassell netted for the Tangerines at Bloomfield Road.

Conor Chaplin had ensured it was 1-1 at half-time with a stunning overhead-kick leveller.

Yet, ultimately, it wasn’t good enough from Cook’s men, who slipped to a third league away defeat of the campaign.

Pompey’s boss said: ‘Your team reflects you on Saturday in such a positive way – and tonight it reflects us again.

‘The reality is we were a million miles away from the team we saw on Saturday and everyone will have an opinion on why.

‘If you don’t do the ugly side of the game, like we do at home when we are prepared to work hard and everyone grafts, unfortunately you will end up on the wrong side of a result.

‘Tonight, with the greatest respect to Blackpool, who have thoroughly deserved to win, they didn’t have to do a lot to win the game.

‘We created chances for them – and that is so disappointing.’
