Paul Cook lauded Pompey’s character as they picked up an important three points against Cambridge United.

The Blues grafted to victory at Fratton Park with a performance which warranted success.

Cook felt his team showed resolve and had a steel to their display which pleased him.

He said: ‘I’m delighted.

‘The most important thing was to pick up three points.

‘It was disappointing to concede, but that shouldn’t tarnish what was a strong team performance.

‘We were full of what teams have been doing to us, if the truth be known.

‘We’ve gone forward quicker than we have all season.

‘But I thought we were full of character.’
