Steve Cotterill bemoaned Ricardo Rocha’s red card, which sent Pompey on the road to defeat to Cardiff.

Rocha was sent off after 18 minutes as the Blues suffered a 3-0 loss today.

The defender tangled with Jay Bothroyd and then went head to head with the striker.

He saw red, with Bothroyd emerging unscathed, as Rocha left the pitch with blood seeping from above his eye.

Cotterill pinpointed that as the game’s key moment, but admitted his men looked tired from their efforts this season as they fell to defeat.

He said: ‘The card changed the game a lot.

‘We were better with 11 men and still went for it with 10.

‘I can’t say much about the red card until I’ve seen it again, but Ricardo is normally a placid guy.

‘Ricardo said he didn’t head-butt him. If he’s lying he’ll be fined heavily.

‘We looked like our exertions had caught up us and we were tired.

‘But even with 10 men we gave it a go.’
