Steve Cotterill rued the defending which cost Pompey victory against Hull but insisted: We could have won 8-3.
Pompey carved out chance after chance but ended up being defeated 3-2 by Hull.
The three goals made in nine conceded in three games for the Blues, a run which is threatening their hopes of a top six finish this season.
Cotterill felt Pompey created more than enough to pick up three points - but were undermined at the back.
He said: 'It could have been about 8-3 that game.
'We were good value for three points, but our defending was not good enough.
'That has happened to us from the start of the season. Today is not a new thing.
'We're geared up to entertain and win games, but we have done that to our cost at times.
'My teams have always been strong defensively. My record shows you that.
'But we're paying the price for not being organised at the start of the season.'
