Steve Cotterill wants another three players before the transfer window shuts.
The Pompey boss has brought in Benjani Mwaruwari and Erik Huseklepp in the past week.
The latter yesterday trained with his new team-mates, having completed a £1.5m switch from Bari.
Huseklepp’s arrival has swelled Cotterill’s squad to 19 players as he desperately attempts to bolster his numbers to cope with a gruelling Championship season.
There are now 13 days remaining before the August 31 transfer deadline.
Cotterill has targeted three more players to bring to Fratton Park during that period.
That will include temporary transfers, having so far not dipped into the loan market.
And Pompey’s manager is optimistic he will be successful in his pursuit.
He said: ‘Hopefully we can add some more faces before the window closes.
‘I need to see how far the money stretches first.
‘Before Benji and Erik arrived I said I wanted another five.
‘Well, I’ve got another three to get now.
‘I know who they are so hopefully we can get there.
‘We haven’t gone into the loan market yet, so there could be something there.
‘Mind you, we had used them all up this time last year!’
Pompey’s numbers now mean Cotterill will be forced to leave three of his squad out of tomorrow’s trip to Bristol City.
Only five substitutes can be named this season.
It means that if everybody is fit and available, three out of the 19 will miss out.
