Steve Cotterill was delighted for Erik Huseklepp after Pompey got their season back up and running with a 1-0 win over Blackpool.
Huseklepp was the match-winner as his stunning injury-time volley handed the hosts three priceless points.
It was the Norwegian’s first goal in English football since his summer arrival from Italian club Bari.
And Cotterill was full of praise for the forward’s fine effort.
The Blues boss said: ‘We are delighted with Erik.
‘No-one saves that. We’re really pleased for him.
‘This kid’s been here for a few games and there is big expectations on him.
‘It took Ronaldo two years to settle in at Man United but they could afford to put him in and out of the side at first. We’ve had to put Erik in at the deep end.
‘Hopefully, he’ll enjoy his weekend. He’s a lovely lad.
‘When he pulled the trigger it flew in. There’s not a keeper who saves that.’
