Outgoing Pompey boss Steve Cotterill has praised the ‘fantastic’ Fratton Park fans as he prepares to join Nottingham Forest.

Cotterill spoke with reporters as he entered talks with the East Midlands club this afternoon and was quick to praise the Fratton faithful following his decision to leave the south coast.

Compensation for the 47-year-old’s signature has been agreed by executives at the City Ground and Fratton Park in the early hours of this morning.

Cotterill said: ‘It hasn’t been an easy decision because of my relationship I’ve had with people at Portsmouth. The fans have been fantastic with me. My players, my staff, they’ve been nothing short of fantastic.

‘It’s been a tough day today and I’d rather if I could just get on with it now.’
