Steve Cotterill has revealed the key factors he is looking for in his summer targets.
Cotterill outlined the detail of the type of winning characters and leaders he has lined up to arrive at Fratton Park.
The Pompey boss is waiting for the green light to bring in the players who have agreed to join the club.
Cotterill has three free transfers agreed, with work continuing on a further three recruits.
But the increasingly protracted nature of the club’s takeover is hindering his progress.
Cotterill believes the men who potentially will arrive will add the kind of character he needs.
He said: ‘I’m looking for people who have won promotions.
‘Not just promotions from this division, but promotions in general.
‘Promotions, captains and people with good leadership skills. People who, home and away, know how to deal with certain situations.’
Pompey bring a tumultuous campaign to a close at Scunthorpe today.
Cotterill admits a rest will be needed for everyone at the club after their trials this season.
The 46-year-old will run the rule over some players on the continent but a break will soon be on his agenda.
He admits it won’t be long until he is missing the day-to-day involvement at Pompey, though.
Cotterill said: ‘It probably will be good to have a rest.
‘But after a week I’ll be missing the training ground, the banter with the lads and the buzz of matchday.
‘It probably is time to have a rest, though.
‘I’ve got a couple of trips abroad pencilled in to have a look at players, but it will be good to have a rest.’
