Steve Cotterill congratulated Norwich after their slender win over Pompey.
The 1-0 loss to the Canaries ensured the visitors were promoted to the Premier League at Fratton Park.
Simeon Jackson’s goal five minutes after the restart decided the game.
It was tough for Pompey to see the away side celebrating after the final whistle.
Cotterill felt Ritchie De Laet was caught napping for the decisive goal
But he was quick to applaud Paul Lambert’s side for their success.
Cotterill said: ‘All credit to Norwich.
‘Take nothing away from them, it’s a great night for them and their club.
‘It’s a great effort for them to get into the Premier League.
‘We gave everything, but in the end it was not enough.
‘Ritchie De Laet has let his player go and they have scored the only goal of the game from it.
‘I thought we could have held them to a draw - but good luck to them.’
