DESERVING Pompey fans are being offered the chance to see their team play for free.

The News is teaming up with Pompey’s 12th Man community fans’ organisation to offer two tickets to each home game to those who are the most deserving.

The giveaway begins this Saturday, for the sold-out home game against Oxford, so we want to hear from those who think they, or someone they know, deserve tickets.

‘It’s a fantastic initiative from Pompey’s 12th Man,’ said editor of The News Mark Waldron.

‘We’re delighted to be able to give tickets to those who are the most deserving and it’s a great way for the football club to show off its new community colours. We are very much looking forward to featuring these deserving people in The News.’

The Pay 4 a Pompey Pal scheme was started two seasons ago for the then-Championship side when season ticket prices were sky high.

The idea is fans donate a few pounds and the scheme buys season tickets for those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to go.

So far Pompey’s 12th Man has bought 14 season tickets, and 10 more have been donated by the club in order to help as many people as possible.

Tom Dearie, the man behind the scheme, said: ‘Pay 4 a Pompey Pal is a means of Pompey fans helping other Pompey fans get to matches at Fratton Park.

‘Those fans may be struggling financially, or they may not be able to go to a game for another reason.

‘It all goes into the community ethos of the club and helping to support fans.

‘It also helps the club because we can give 12 pairs of tickets for every home game.’

Tom added: ‘It’s not about paying for a match ticket or a season ticket in one go, it’s just donating a couple of pounds here and there.

‘In total we’ve raised nearly £8,000 to help people get to matches.’

To nominate yourself or a friend for a match ticket is simple.

All you need to do is email or write to the paper at 1000 Lakeside in North Harbour to tell us why you or your friend deserve to get a ticket.

We will need to receive your letters and emails by the end of the day tomorrow, and you must be willing to be interviewed and have your picture taken to be published in The News.

Please include your name, your address, your telephone number and, if nominating someone else, their contact details too.

The News will be running this giveaway before every home game of the 2013/2014 season and a different person will be chosen each time.
