First-team coach Ian Foster has admitted Enda Stevens is on Pompey’s radar.

Yet he anticipates plenty of interest in the former Aston Villa left-back.

The lad can get up and down the pitch, is athletic, defends well in one-v-one situations, is technically good and tactically astute

Stevens is a free agent after the Premier League side announced his release on Monday.

Paul Cook has long monitored the Irishman, who impressed while on loan with Doncaster Rovers last season, making 32 appearances.

Pompey’s boss and Foster are well aware of Stevens’ ability, having both managed teams in the League of Ireland when the defender turned out at that level.

And Foster, who was appointed to Cook’s backroom last month, believes the ex-Shamrock Rovers player will be in popular demand this summer,

He said: ‘There are a number of players we are looking it but we are aware of Enda.

‘There will be nothing we don’t know about him from our experiences out in Ireland, which is hugely beneficial.

‘Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out for him at Aston Villa but he will find a level in England I’m sure and will make a good career.

‘I’ve seen him play in League One and he’s very, very comfortable, plus he is getting that Football League experience.

‘I think at Enda’s age he probably now just needs to play.

‘The lad can get up and down the pitch, is athletic, defends well in one-v-one situations, is technically good and tactically astute.

‘In addition, he has a good range of passing.

‘You have got to remember, he has come out of a Premier League club with plenty of League One experience now under his belt.

‘We’ll see how that ends up but I’m sure there will be plenty of suitors.’
