Former Pompey attacker Nadir Ciftci has been banned from football for six matches after being found guilty of biting an opponent.

Ciftci – who scored twice in 21 appearances during a spell from 2009 to 2011 at Fratton Park – will miss new club Celtic’s opening six Scottish Premiership games.

That’s after the 23-year-old was given an eight-match ban with two suspended for ‘excessive misconduct’ for sinking his teeth into opponent Jim McAlister in last season’s Dundee derby.

Turkey under-19 international Ciftci, who moved to champions Celtic from Dundee United for £1.5m earlier this month, will not appeal against the ban.
