Fratton Park is a home sell out for the season finale against Plymouth.

Saturday’s visit of Argyle will bring the curtain down on another eventful Blues campaign – much of it spent fearing a drop into non-league football.

Andy Awford’s late intervention with a remarkable winning run helped secure their League Two status with three games to spare.

Now a crowd around the 18,200 mark will be present as the season is rounded off with the visit of John Sheridan’s side.

And victory would also assure a top-10 spot – a stunning turnaround having been one place above the relegation zone on March 25.

Yesterday morning, the final executive seating was taken by Blues followers to ensure all home ends are now sold out.

Now Pompey must wait to see how many of Plymouth’s allocated 1,600 tickets have been snapped up from their end.

Indications are they are selling extremely well for what is Argyle’s first Fratton league visit since February 1992.

Although they did, of course, lose 2-1 there during the Blues’ successful FA Cup-winning campaign in 2007-08 under Harry Redknapp.

Regardless, Pompey’s average League Two attendance of 15,344 will be boosted during their final match.

Already that is more than double Plymouth’s, who are second in the attendance table with an average of 7,304.

The match will also mark the presentation of a number of player of the year trophies before the kick off.

A total of seven, including The News/Sports Mail’s silverware, will be handed over to the worthy recipients around 2.30pm.

Others are from supporters clubs representing Chichester, Clan Pompey, Northern Blues, the South-West, Isle of Wight and Stateside.

In addition, The News will hand over a cheque in recognition of our agreement to donate to the club 10p of every Sports Mail sold this season.

The precise figure will be revealed on the day, when chief executive Mark Catlin receives a cheque specifying the total on the pitch before the game.
