THE Fratton Park pitch will be transformed into a sea of tents this weekend as Pompey hold their first sleepover.
For the first time in 114 years, youngsters and their parents will have the chance to pitch their tents and sleep on the hallowed turf on Saturday evening.
The Pompey Sports and Education Foundation (PSEF) will treat members of Junior Pompey to an on-pitch coaching session by qualified coaches from the Pompey Sports and Education Foundation.
They will then make pizzas in the Victory Lounge thanks to the expert guidance from the head chef at Jamie’s Italian in Gunwharf Quays.
The evening will finish with a movie on the stadium’s big screen, with the choice of either High School Musical, Shrek 3, Grease or suggestions from children.
The Victory Lounge reopens its doors from 7am on Sunday when bacon rolls, tea, coffee and other refreshments will be served from 8am.
Clare Martin, director of community projects for PSEF, said: ‘It’s an exciting opportunity.
‘We have looked back through the history books and cannot find any time that anyone has slept on the Fratton Park pitch.
‘The kids will be the first to do so.
‘It’s great we have been allowed to do this and everyone thinks it’s a brilliant idea. My little one has been counting down the sleeps before the event.’
