Pompey boss: Talbot injury not as bad as first feared

Friends will be reunited at Ipswich tonight.

Ibrahima Sonko and David Norris will both be facing the teams they were playing for in the 2010-11 campaign.

Sonko is featuring regularly under Paul Jewell and earned praise from Pompey’s joint-caretaker boss Guy Whittingham for his efforts last season.

Whittingham said: ‘It’s nice for Sonks to be getting minutes. He’s a great pro and a nice guy.

‘Because of the ruling on loans last season, he was often left out.

‘He was brilliant, though, and great for the spirit of the club. Sometimes players like that get their just rewards, and that’s the case with him.

‘He’s scoring goals, too. We need to consider his threat at set-pieces.’

Whittingham knows Norris will be extra keen to follow up his 20-yard effort against Barnsley on Saturday.

He said: ‘I’m sure Chuck’s looking forward to it. I bet he’s looking forward to going up against some of his old team-mates.

‘We played 4-4-2 on Saturday and he hasn’t got quite the licence to get forward in a two compared to a three.

‘I bet he’s looking to get forward against his old team given the chance, though.’
