New boy’s bitter-sweet Pompey experience

IT WAS a huge success last season and now deserving Pompey fans have another opportunity to get free tickets to games at Fratton Park.

The News is giving away a pair of tickets to each home game to fans in need of a boost.

It begins this Saturday with Pompey’s match against Newport County.

We will buy the tickets from Pompey’s 12th Man, a community association which helps deserving fans get to games.

But to make the scheme work we need to hear from you. We want to hear about anyone who deserves a treat – and the way this season is going at the moment, a trip to Fratton Park really is a treat.

We want to hear nominations of people who could do with a lift – perhaps they have had a hard time recently with financial struggles, illness, or other personal circumstances.

Perhaps, on the flipside, they’ve just received some good news after a spell in the doldrums and are ready to get back on track after a period of hardship.

Either which way, the power is in your hands.

So now’s the time to think about who you want to put forward.

Mark Waldron, editor of The News, said: ‘This scheme worked extremely well last season.

‘It was fantastic to be able to offer the most deserving supporters a chance to watch Pompey play.

‘We made a lot of people happy and we heard some inspiring stories along the way.

‘This is all part of being a community club and we are happy to be able to support this initiative.’

The only thing we ask is that whoever is nominated for the tickets is happy to share their story with readers of The News, and have a chat with one of our reporters and have their picture taken.

And you only need to nominate someone once during the season – we will keep all submissions.

Get your nominations in to us by tomorrow!

TO nominate yourself or a friend for a match ticket is simple.

All you need to do is email ruth.scammell@thenews.co.uk or write to the paper at 1000 Lakeside in North Harbour to tell us why you or your friend deserve to get a ticket.

Tickets are available for Saturday’s clash with Newport.

We will need to receive your letters and emails by the end of the day tomorrow, and you must be willing to be interviewed and have your picture taken to be published in The News.

Please include your name, your address, your telephone number and, if nominating someone else, their contact details too.

The News will be running this giveaway before every home game of the 2014/2015 season and a different person will be chosen each time.
