Guy Whittingham launched into his Pompey players after their abject York defeat.
The Blues slumped to a 4-2 Bootham Crescent defeat this afternoon as their unbeaten league away record was shattered.
Wes Fletcher’s opener was cancelled out by Jed Wallace’s wonder goal, before York ran away with it.
Substitute John Maquis pulled one back at the death, but it couldn’t mask a performance which had Whittingham fuming.
He said: ‘Today we didn’t give our all and that is the first time that has happened.
‘All you ever want to see from our players is that desire and hard work.
‘Their hard work was much more than us today.
‘We didn’t want to get involved in the right place.
‘I was extremely surprised. This season we have worked hard and everybody puts everything in. Then this happened.
‘And, really, we should be talking about Jed Wallace’s fantastic goal.’
