Guy Whittingham took the positives from a spirited FA Cup fightback today.
Pompey fell out of the competition at the first hurdle following a 2-1 defeat at Stevenage.
Gavin Mahon was sent off in the second half, but David Connolly pulled a goal back to prompt a late charge.
Whittingham was satisfied with what he saw from his men against Graham Westley’s side.
He said: ‘I was happy with our attitude and application.
‘It wasn’t just in the second half.
‘We created chances throughout the game.
‘But the way in which we threw everything at them at the end was pleasing.
‘The performance keeps the momentum going.’
Whittingham had no complaint with Mahon’s red card after he caught Felipe Morais, but he was disappointed referee Gary Sutton didn’t see Connolly floored by a flailing arm.
‘Gavin’s caught him. It wasn’t a swinging elbow, but he did catch him,’ added Whittingham.
‘But David Connolly has a fat lip after being caught by their player and nothing happened.’
