Guy Whttingham admitted his team let the fans down after an awful 4-0 thumping at AFC Wimbledon.

The Blues were woeful at Kingsmeadow as they were given a hiding by Neal Ardley’s side.

Whittingham pulled no punches and offered no defence for his players for the display.

Pompey’s players were kept for a long period in the away dressing room after the game, before Whittingham emerged to speak.

He said: ‘Of course it hurts. We’ve let those fans downs.

‘They’ve got us through the hardest period in this club’s history.

‘And they stayed. I wouldn’t have blamed them for heading for the exits.

‘We have to go back to basics.

‘Emotions are running high among everyone.

‘We made mistakes. The goals we gave away weren’t good enough. People have jobs to do.

‘We have to do something about it. It’s only hard work that can sort this out.’
