Guy Whittingham conceded Pompey weren’t at their best, despite pulling off a victory against Bury today.

Bondz N’Gala netted the only goal of the game, when he headed home Ricky Holmes’ corner in the fourth minute.

Yet Whittingham’s men largely struggled to get going and had to produce some gutsy defending for long periods.

Nonetheless, it was a second successive win at Fratton Park for the below-par hosts.

Whittingham said: ‘I am enjoying it because it’s a win, that’s the important thing.

‘Sometimes you deserve them, sometimes you don’t.

‘There have been games this season we have played better than that and not won.

‘And what frustrated me was the way we didn’t keep the ball.

‘But set-pieces are a massive part of football, especially the league we are in, and in the week we worked out one or two things about Bury.’
