Danny Hollands believes Pompey have every reason to be positive as they bid to avoid a third successive league defeat.

Andy Awford’s side head to 14th-placed Southend tomorrow seeking to bounce back to winning ways.

Losses to Newport County and Burton have dampened some of the initial impetus to the League Two season.

Nonetheless, that should not detract from what has overall been an encouraging start to the campaign for the Blues in both league and cups.

And Hollands insists Pompey should be upbeat as they prepare for their Roots Hall visit.

He said: ‘We have lost the last two games, obviously it is disappointing, but we are in a good place and hopefully will remain there.

‘It has been a good start and we have played some of the better teams in the league so you have got to take the positives out of it.

‘Burton are top of the league and I feel we created the better chances and controlled the game in large spells, so rather than looking at a result we have to stay positive and remain focused.

‘We have to build on that and if we can put those final pieces into the puzzle, hopefully we can come back with the three points.

‘If you win tomorrow and Tuesday against Dagenham you are a team in good form.

‘When you lose the last two back-to-back people are a bit doom and gloom, but you remember we are where we are in the league and are looking forward to hopefully getting three points tomorrow and pushing in the right direction.

‘We are positive we can go to Southend and get a good result. We feel as a team and as a squad we have enough to beat them.’
