Dave Kitson has become the latest player to agree to leave Pompey.
The News can reveal that striker and his agent have agreed terms with administrator Trevor Birch the cancel the remaining year of his contract.
Kitson’s exit will now be signed off this weekend.
Under terms of the compromise, the former Reading forward will be paid the money he is owed over four years.
Kitson’s departure is a huge boost in Pompey’s fight to stay alive and now leaves Tal Ben Haim and Liam Lawrence as the only high-wage earners at the club who need to be sold before August 10 to avoid the club being liquidated.
Kitson has no other club to go to and his actions drew praise from Birch.
Birch said: ‘Dave Kitson has walked away from a substantial amount of money and hasn’t even got a club lined up.
‘We thank him for doing that which continues the fighting chance to save the club.’
