David Lampitt believes Steve Cotterill’s replacement as Pompey manager should have experience of the Championship.
The Pompey chief executive was speaking after the post Cotterill era started with a 2-0 win against Barnsley on Saturday.
Already there have been a number of names linked with the manager’s role at Fratton Park, but Lampitt says he want the new man to have the right credentials to take Pompey forward.
Lampitt said: ‘The Championship is a really tough, tough league - a tough division - and so I think experience at that level and experience of English football is an important aspect of it.
‘Having said that, getting the right person who the right attributes across a number of different areas is key and that inevitably will involve a balance.
‘We want to find the right balance across all of those areas that we think are important for the club.’
