Alan Knight has expressed his sympathy for Andy Awford after his exit as Pompey manager.

But the Blues legend admitted he could see why the club’s board made the decision to remove him from his role as Blues boss.

It’s not a nice thing to see, but it’s as a result of the club not being in the place they want to be.

Awford parted company from the position after a meeting at the club’s Roko training ground in Hilsea today.

Knight knows he will have found that tough to accept.

Knight said: ‘I’m gutted for him.

‘It’s not a nice thing to see, but it’s as a result of the club not being in the place they want to be.

‘Someone is going to reignite this football club and Awfs thought he was the man to do it.

‘He will be extremely frustrated that’s not the case.’

Knight believes there is every chance Awford will take the new role which has been offered to him, after taking some time out.

He said: ‘Maybe he’ll have a break now and come back in a new role.’
