Alan McLoughlin’s praised Pompey’s mental strength as they put Morecambe to the sword.
The Blues first-team coach was pleased with the reaction of his side as they picked up a 3-0 win today.
That showed a reaction to the low ebb of crashing out of the FA Cup against Aldershot on Wednesday.
McLoughlin and manager Andy Awford called on the players to show the resolve needed to starting putting that result to bed.
And that they emphatically did with a display which could have delivered a bigger win.
McLoughlin said: ‘It’s been a tough week and a testing one for everyone connected with the club.
‘You try to keep moving forward, though, and good characters with strong mentalities can do that.
‘If you are mentally weak and not prepared to dig in you will struggle.
‘We asked them for mental strength – and they showed that in abundance.
‘It’s three points which takes us to 10th in the table. Now we need to move on.
‘No-one will get carried away.
‘We now go to Tranmere looking to push on and get something from the game.’
