Pompey fans have received encouragement from an unlikely source - Saints legend Matt Le Tissier.

The former Southampton star turned football pundit took to Twitter to console Fratton supporters disappointed that Pompey only managed a 0-0 draw against lowly Hartlepool United in their League Two match on Saturday.

Shortly after tweeting his delight that Southampton are sitting second in the Premiership, Le Tissier added: ‘And #pfc fans don’t worry about drawing 0-0 with Hartlepool we did that a few years ago and look what happened to us. #believe’

Le Tissier, now 45, played eight times for England in a career spent entirely at Southampton, where he scored 161 goals in 443 appearances.

Saints drew 0-0 at Hartlepool in a League One match in February 2011.
