PORTSMOUTH North MP Penny Mordaunt says the Pompey Supporters’ Trust bid is the ‘only answer’ to ensure the club’s future.
Ms Mordaunt has been a staunch supporter of the trust since it launched its community share scheme in March.
She is calling on the administrators to work with the trust and save the club.
She said: ‘Fans were aware of how dicey the situation was and many will be quite relieved Chainrai is no longer an option on the table.
‘It is clear people want someone who is passionate about taking Pompey forward and give it the focus it needs.
‘Thank God for Pompey Supporters’ Trust, as without that option the club would be finished. The bid is a good bid and it is the only answer.
‘Let’s focus on that, get it to work and save the club.
‘You have seen criticism of the administrators from some players and Chainrai, and that is a stark contrast to the professionalism shown by the trust and that speaks volumes for the trust.’
‘Their focus is on the football, my message to the administrators is work with the trust to save the club.’
Mike Hancock, MP for Portsmouth South, said fans need to show their money to help the trust seal the deal.
He said: ‘Portpin’s attitude is irresponsible, they played it to the last minute and it is ridiculous.’
