POMPEY could have new owners as early as next week, it has emerged.

Keith Harris, chairman of investment bankers Seymour Pierce, which has been given the job of finding new owners, said he would ‘not dismiss’ the claim that the frontrunners in the bid to takeover the club is the Russian-backed Convers Sports Initiatives company.

In February The News exclusively revealed how businessmen Roman Dubov and Vladimir Antonov, alongside former Leicester chairman Chris Akers, were in the running to buy Pompey.

It has emerged that during the past few weeks the club’s management and Convers have been performing ‘due diligence’ at a hotel in the city - making sure there would be no surprises in terms of the club’s finances or those of the new owners after a deal is struck.
