The club’s potential was shown with the FA Premier League southern division title success in 2015.

From there they got so close to the FA Women’s Super League.

It took a last-ditch goal from Sheffield to beat them in the first ever promotion play-off to reach that level.

Now chairman Mick Williams will be looking to appoint a quality new boss to replace Northeast who has decided to move on after three years in charge.

The outgoing manager has shown what can be achieved with his success during his three years in charge.

Hopefully the Blues can now appoint a successor who is able to keep them flying high in the Premier League and ultimately bridge the gap to the Super League.

Northeast felt it was the right moment to vacate the position.

He said: ‘It’s time to let somebody else have one of the best managerial jobs in the south of England.

‘That’s the magnitude of the role.

‘That’s what I’ve wanted to turn this role into.

‘I wanted to make people realise how good it is to be the manager of Portsmouth Ladies Football Club.

‘Now is the time for somebody else to experience what I have for three years – just to go for gold and give it everything.

‘That’s what would be nice, to see someone give it everything, and give it all they have got.

‘It’s a good time, it’s a good thing for the club this move.

‘Now is the time for the players to give their all for somebody else, whoever that might be.’

Pompey Ladies would welcome applications for the position of first team manager.
