Pompey’s unlikely play-off hopes remain very much alive after a gutsy 1-0 win at Leicester.
David Nugent was the hero with the only goal of the game at the Walkers Stadium.
Nugent struck in the 13th minute as he latched on to a long throw from Greg Halford to rifle home his finish and get his 12th strike of the campaign.
Leicester pushed for long periods but Steve Cotterill’s men were again sturdy and resilient and held on to get a big win.
The best chance after the goal fell to the visitors as Jonathan Hogg played in sub Joel Ward, who couldn’t beat Ricardo with nine minutes left.
Jamie Ashdown again made some fine stops as Pompey delivered a display typical for them on the road this season.
It means they have now kept eight clean sheets in the past nine games and seven victories along the way.
The win means Pompey are now six points off the play-offs with eight games remaining, as they head into a well-deserved international break.
