David Nugent rescued a dramatic point for Pompey with a last minute equaliser as they grabbed a 1-1 home draw with Derby County.

Steve Davies put the visitors ahead 10 minutes before the break with a fine scissor-kick finish that gave Jamie Ashdown no chance as Pompey’s defence went missing from a left-wing cross.

But Pompey worked hard to get back into the game after the interval and their perseverance eventually paid off as Nugent rifled home after a loose ball fell to him on the edge of the box in the dying minutes of a contest that was ruined as a spectacle by a strong wind swirling around Fratton Park.

The draw extended Pompey’s winless run to 10 games, but having trailed for so long, they will be thankful to have emerged with at least a point.
