An unhappy Paul Cook criticised his Pompey team - despite a first FA Cup win for five-and-a-half years.
The Blues defeated Macclesfield Town 2-1 at Fratton Park this afternoon, with Adam McGurk scoring twice.
It was a first win in the competition since the 2-0 triumph over Spurs at Wembley in April 2010.
Yet the manner of today’s victory over the non-leaguers disappointed Cook, who was far from jubilant over the result.
He said: ‘We weren’t good today.
‘In patches in the first half I thought we were really good and created good chances but we just didn’t have that devilment in our play that the Cup can do.
‘The pleasing thing for us is we are in the hat - and that is the pleasing thing no matter what anyone says.
‘But we are very, very disappointed in our performance.
‘I have been a big backer of the players to date but there comes a time when you have got to be better than that.
‘We have got through, though, and sometimes you have to take the positives that we are in the hat.’
