Paul Cook insisted he remains pleased with Pompey’s promotion progress after a stirring fightback against Wycombe.

The Blues overhauled a two-goal deficit to leave Adams Park with a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Unfortunately we haven’t turned some of those draws into wins, which we all want, but our points tally at the minute is okay

The point wasn’t enough to prevent them slipping down a place into fifth spot in the League Two table.

However, Cook is positive about a start to a campaign which has seen them draw half of their 20 league matches – and lose only two.

He said: ‘The pleasing thing for us on Saturday was the character we showed to come back.

‘When you add your points up at the end of the season that could be important.

‘We are now on 34 points.

‘We are ticking away towards where we want to be and we have to keep on going.

‘Playing 20 games in this league and only losing twice is a fantastic achievement by all the players.

‘Unfortunately we haven’t turned some of those draws into wins, which we all want, but our points tally at the minute is okay.

‘It’s not as good as we all want it to be but it’s okay and we will keep driving forward to do better.

‘It’s a long league campaign. You are coming up to Christmas time and the games are taking care of themselves.

‘We will be looking to get into January and see where we are at.

‘Hopefully we can kick on and deliver for the supporters and I must pay special credit the noise they make.

‘The atmosphere they bring to games is electric. Great credit to them.’

Pompey are presently six points off joint leaders Oxford United and Plymouth – who have still to come to Fratton Park for fixtures this season.
