POMPEY have denied they are sending a senior side to Dorchester Town as part of their pre-season programme.

The Evo-Stick League Southern outfit today claimed a ‘Pompey XI’ had agreed to visit.

The fixture is advertised on their website to take place on Saturday, July 18, with a 1pm kick off.

But the Blues have already announced a trip to Gosport Borough (3pm) for the same date.

That Privett Park match had long been designated as part of Pompey’s attempts to maintain close links with their non-league neighbours.

However, The News have been informed it is not a Pompey XI taking on Dorchester.

Instead, it is actually the Blues’ Academy side booked in to face the Magpies at The Avenue Stadium on that date.

That means Gosport remain the third fixture of what is so far a five-match summer friendly programme for Paul Cook’s side.

Pompey’s pre-season begins against the Hawks on Saturday, July 11 (3pm), in what has become a traditional curtain-raiser.

They then face Bognor at Nyewood Lane on Friday, July 17 (7.30pm).

The following day, Cook will take his squad to Privett Park, where he is likely to rotate his squad.

Woking is the next venue, with a fixture on Friday, July 24 (7.30pm).

Finally, the Blues travel to League One side Gillingham on Saturday, August 1 (3pm).

In addition, a Pompey XI will be entertained by Burnham on Tuesday, August 4 (7.30pm).
