On 6 December 2010 we published an interview with Mark Chamberlain about his dismissal from his post in charge of Portsmouth FC’s Under-16s Academy.

The article suggested that former Pompey manager Paul Hart had been responsible for the dismissal, which Mr Chamberlain said he thought may have been linked to the fact that he would not bring his talented footballing son, Alex, to the Pompey Academy. The article might also have been interpreted to suggest that Mr Chamberlain had only been appointed for that purpose.

We have been asked to make clear that Mark Chamberlain was in fact appointed by Paul Hart because he wanted an experienced football person in the post and that Mr Hart was not responsible for Mr Chamberlain’s dismissal; indeed, he wanted to keep Mr Chamberlain at the club in some capacity. Also, for the avoidance of doubt, as we have made clear previously, it was not Paul Hart who escorted Mr Chamberlain from the premises on the day of his dismissal.

We are happy to make the position clear and apologise to Mr Hart for any misunderstanding.
