Jason Pearce pinpointed home form as the key to a Pompey charge up the table.
Defender Pearce believes Fratton Park victories can provide the launch pad for a leap up the Championship.
Three wins on the bounce at home under caretaker managers Stuart Gray and Guy Whittingham has offered cause for optimism.
Barnsley, Doncaster and Nottingham Forest have all been put to the sword in succession.
Saturday’s 3-0 win over Steve Cotterill’s Forest lifted the team to 16th in the table, going into the international break.
Pompey return to action next weekend with a visit to Watford.
But their only other trip on the road between now and Christmas is a visit to Burnley next month.
In the same period, Leicester and Coventry come to town before the mouthwatering visit of deadly rivals Southampton on December 18.
Pearce feels continuing in the same vein on Pompey’s own patch is crucial to a continued upturn in fortunes,
He said: ‘The home games are going to be vital for us.
‘We need to win the home games and try to nick away games.
‘It’s good to have a lot of home games before Christmas.
‘That’s good for us and we need to make the most of it.’
The Fratton faithful were in good voice as Pompey grabbed a win over Forest on Saturday.
Pearce cited fans’ support as vital if the team are to continue their winning ways.
He said: ‘We have to have our home fans behind us. That gives us a real lift.
‘That is going to give us a buzz.
‘Hopefully, we can give them something to cheer about.’
