Key facts about Pompey’s new goalkeeper Aaron McCarey, who signed on loan from Wolves today.

1. Wolves signed the goalkeeper from his hometown club Monaghan United.

2. Pompey will be the fourth club to loan his services from Wolves during his early career in English football.

3. The 23-year-old was first loaned out to AFC Telford United for one month, during which time he enjoyed four consecutive wins for the Conference North club as they chased promotion.

4. While on loan at Walsall, McCarey made his first Football League start against Pompey’s League Two rivals Crawley Town on November 17, 2012.

5. McCarey progressed through the Republic of Ireland youth ranks after making his debut for the under-17s in 2009.

6. The 6ft 2in goalkeeper received his first international call-up for the Republic of Ireland senior side in 2013 and was part of the 19-man squad who travelled to New York to play Spain at the Yankee Stadium.

7. McCarey produced some fine stops to help Wolves claim a penalty shootout win over Walsall in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in 2013.
