Pompey turned in one of their best displays of the season as they stormed to a 3-0 win over Carlisle United at Fratton Park.
The Blues got off to a perfect start as they snatched the lead with just 80 seconds on the clock as Craig Westcarr ended his recent goal drought to tuck home from close range.
Miles Storey’s shot should have been handled easily by the Carlisle keeper, but he somehow spilled it and allowed the striker to poke home the opener.
Pompey then made it 2-0 on 26 minutes when Ricky Holmes found Storey with a fantastic ball and the on-loan Swindon man provided an emphatic finish high into the net as he outpaced the visiting defence.
And Awford’s men wrapped up the convincing victory 16 minutes from time when Danny Hollands netted his first goal of the season, volleying home Westcarr’s precise cross to the far post.
Carlisle’s Hayden White was then shown a straight red card in the closing minutes for a wild lunge on Hollands, but thankfully the midfielder was unharmed as Pompey claimed a comprehensive success.
