Jason Pearce believes his partnership with Greg Halford is continuing to blossom.
The duo are Steve Cotterill’s preferred choice in the centre of Pompey’s defence.
That is despite the presence in the squad of Ricardo Rocha – a player some supporters would like to see back in the starting line-up.
Nonetheless, Pearce and Halford have undoubtedly impressed as a double act for the Blues.
They have started six of the past seven matches together.
Pompey conceded three goals against Peterborough in the week.
However, two of those were errors from Jamie Ashdown and Erik Huseklepp. Now Pompey head to Leeds tomorrow looking to bounce back. And Pearce, who was voted player of the month for August by the fans, is delighted with how his understanding with Halford is progressing.
‘It is a new partnership and like any partnership, it is going to take time,’ he said.
‘But it is coming on all right at the moment.
‘Every game we play together we get a better understanding and I think it will help in the long run.
‘Last year, Ricardo and Greg had a great partnership and did really well.
‘Like myself and Greg, they are different sorts of players.
‘That does help because you complement each other.
‘I think that is important and we are improving as a pairing all the time.’
The only time the pair have been split in the past seven games was against Blackpool.
Aaron Mokoena came into the middle alongside Pearce for Halford, who instead switched to right-back in a tactical change.
