Pompey have just 15 players available for tomorrow’s FA Cup first-round showdown with Notts County.
Ashley Harris suffered an ankle injury in training yesterday, which is expected to rule him out of the Fratton Park clash.
Meanwhile, the three loanees – Mikkel Andersen, Carl Dickinson and Scott Allan – are also set to miss out.
While Darel Russell returned to training after his recent hamstring strain, he is nowhere near match-fit.
So that will leave boss Michael Appleton unable to fill the bench.
He said: ‘I’ve got no idea how bad Ashley’s injury is yet.
‘I don’t think it’s a bad one but we’ll have to see.
‘He is a doubt but they will have to wait for the swelling to go down before he can have a scan on it.
‘Darel trained but it was the first time he has trained in six weeks.
‘He may be sat on the bench but if I can get away with not using him, I won’t.
‘So it looks like I’ve got a squad of 15.’
Pompey have already been told by Reading that Andersen is not allowed to play as they do not want him cup-tied.
Appleton said: ‘Reading have been in touch regarding Mikkel.
‘I need to speak to West Brom but I would be amazed if I got the go-ahead for Scott to play.
‘And I’ve had a good chat with Carl but I’m not sure he would be comfortable playing because he doesn’t know where he will be in a month’s time, let alone two months’ time.
‘He doesn’t want to get himself into a position where he could be cup-tied.
‘I’ve got it in my head that none of them will be involved.
‘If any of them are, it’s a boost.’
