Pompey have failed in their bid to overturn Hayden Mullins’ one-match ban.
The Blues yesterday lodged an appeal with the Football Association following the midfielder’s controversial sending off against Coventry for handball.
Steve Cotterill was hopeful of succeeding in proving the offence wasn’t intentional after action replays proved the ball struck Mullins’ thigh before bouncing on to his hand.
However, this afternoon the FA informed Pompey they would not be reversing the decision.
It means Mullins will miss Saturday’s trip to Cardiff – ending his record as Pompey’s only outfield ever-present so far this season.
