Perry Northeast’s Pompey Ladies were beaten for the first time this season as classy Charlton powered to a 4-1 win at Privett Park.

The Blues were missing four key players, with Charley Wilson, Sadie Blakely, Sarah Kempson and Molly Clark all out of the side.

Charlton struck twice in the first half to take command of the game.

Gemma Shepherd scored the first and Kit Graham made it 2-0.

Northeast certainly wasn’t in panic mode at that stage, with his team well capable of launching a comeback.

However, it was Charlton who showed the clinical touch in front of goal to go 3-0 ahead in the second half.

Jenny Newman was alert in the box to send the ball into the net after Nikita Whinnett’s shot was blocked.

The Londoners then added a fourth to complete what was an outstanding performance from their team.

Shepherd and Lauren Parsons linked up well to set up Whinnett who struck the ball home.

Lucy Quinn’s brilliant lofted goal proved only a consolation for Pompey Ladies in injury time.

It was a first defeat for the season for the defending FA Premier League southern division champions.

Charlton are now second in the table after their fourth win in six league matches.

Pompey Ladies are fourth, with a game in hand.

The Blues are back in action in the cup against league-leaders Brighton at Privett Park on Sunday (2pm).
