The ‘world-class manager of Pompey’ applied to become the new boss of Liverpool FC.

But before Blues fans fear for Paul Cook’s future, it was a cheeky gamer who tried to beat Jurgen Klopp to the Anfield post.

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre

Adam Kneale sent an application letter to Liverpool after Brendan Rodgers was sacked as manager at the weekend - citing his success with Pompey on FIFA 15.

Mr Kneale said he had won the Premier League and European titles with the Blues on the video game.

Amazingly he received a letter from Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre saying he hadn’t been successful – as he did not have ‘the required standard of experience’ the Reds were looking for.

Mr Ayre said: ‘Unfortunately, we are unable to process your interest at this time as we are looking for someone with more experience that you have provided; taking Portsmouth Football Club from the 2nd Division and going on to winning the Premier League and Champions League in four seasons on FIFA 15; it is not the required standard of experience we are looking for at this time.’
