Pompey’s players have taken to social media website Twitter to show their appreciation for departing boss Andy Awford.

Awford relinquished his managerial duties at Fratton Park yesterday morning following a meeting at the club’s Roko training ground in Hilsea.

Academy graduates Jed Wallace, Jack Whatmough and Conor Chaplin were all quick to thank the man who gave them their Blues bow.

Wallace – @jedwallace62 tweeted: ‘AA took me out of non-league as a 16 year up (sic) & gave me my chance. Wish him all the best for the future.’

Whatmough – @JackWhatmough3 said: ‘Tough day seeing a manager go who gave me my debut at a young age, couldn’t thank him enough and wish him all the best’

And Chaplin – @ConorChaplin10 added: ‘Sad to see the Gaffer go today, given me my opportunity this season and I can only thank him. Wish him all the best’
