Pompey’s players have agreed to take wage cuts for the rest of the season.

Captain Liam Lawrence told The News this afternoon that the Blues squad will have part of their wages deferred in a bid to help the club’s fight for survival.

They have also written off their earnings for January.

Pompey players met with a PFA representative before agreeing to the gesture.

Lawrence said: ‘We want to do anything we can possibly to do to help save this club.’

Pompey went into administration last week and made 30 redundancies yesterday as they look to cut costs and avoid being liquidated.

Lawrence also said that he - along with two other Blues players - will be down at Fratton Park tomorrow to help sell tickets for Saturday’s match at home to Leeds.
