Pompey rounded off their pre-season with 2-1 loss against Charlton today.

Three goals in the first 25 minutes provided the action as the Championship side picked up the win.

A fine Igor Vetokele goal was cancelled out by Danny Hollands, before George Tucudean hit the winner.

But there was warm applause from the majority of the 3,912 crowd in the dress rehearsal for the League Two curtain-raiser at Exeter next weekend.

It was a fairly even opening against Bob Peeters’ side, and it was Ryan Bird who was first to threaten after 10 minutes.

The striker headed narrowly wide from Adam Webster’s cross, before Tucudean did likewise for the Addicks.

Webster was the next to head over after 19 minutes, before Vetokele opened the scoring 60 seconds later.

It was fine finish from the striker from 18 yards which left Michael Poke with no chance.

Pompey were back in the game two minutes later, though, after Ben Chorley headed Jed Wallace’s free-kick across the face of goal and Hollands applied the finish.

Charlton regained the ascendancy two minutes later when Tucudean was given the space to advance and fire home from the edge of the box.

James Dunne had an eight-yard drive superbly tipped over by Stephen Henderson after 25 minutes.

And the Pompey old boy was there to hold Nicky Shorey’s free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

The dangerous Vetokele had the first chance after the break, but his 20-yard drive was deflected wide.

Then the Belgian talent was hauled down in the box as Dunne conceded a penalty.

But Paul Jones, on as a second-half substitute for Michael Poke, saved well down low to his left.

Then Hollands was a whisker away from levelling after 67 minutes when he cracked the bar from eight yards.

Dunne smashed a shot wide from 20 yards with six minutes left after a flurry of subs.

But Pompey couldn’t pull the goal back over the game’s finale.
