Gaffer for a day Alan McSwiggan previews the Pompey v Mansfield game

This is going to be a tough game against a side who have people who can score all over park.

Do I go with my heart or my head when looking at a prediction? As much as I want us to win, I think we will probably draw.

It’s a cliché but teams do come to Fratton Park looking to get a point and our home form is suffering, which is frustrating.

I like possession football and on Tuesday we should have had Stevenage dead and buried at half-time. You don’t know what Pompey team is going to turn up.

If we were the away team we would definitely win!

Looking at the team, obviously Brian Murphy has to come in for Aaron McCarey, otherwise we wouldn’t have a goalie!

I would make changes further upfield, bringing in Nigel Atangana, Kal Naismith and Caolan Lavery, with Kyle Bennett, Rommy Boco and Matt Tubbs making way.

Bennett is the fall guy at the moment and, unfortunately, is taking a lot of stick from some fans.

Perhaps now is the time to take him out of it to get them off his back.

Around me in the Fratton end there are loads of supporters having a go saying he has no end product.

I think there’s potential in there, once he finds his consistency he will be a really key player for us. The criticism is very harsh, he works hard for the team and definitely has ability.

I quite like the look of Naismith so would give him a go. I’m not sure why he hasn’t featured much more.

Atangana should be played more advanced and his distribution has come on in leaps and bounds this season, he’s a whole new player.

Meanwhile, Lavery had bags of energy and looked quite good when he came on against Stevenage.
