PORTSMOUTH North MP Penny Mordaunt has fought tirelessly for the benefit of Pompey Supporters’ Trust.

As well as backing its bid from the beginning she has strived to break down barriers between clubs and fans.

In February she chaired a football governance event in parliament which was aimed at doing exactly that.

Ms Mordaunt said she was delighted by the end result.

‘I am so proud of what has been achieved today,’ she said.

‘It is a remarkable achievement by a remarkable group of football fans.

‘Not only will it enable our club to be all it can be but it will be a catalyst for others with similar ambitions.’

Ms Mordaunt said there had been plenty of obstacles in the way – but she never gave up hope that Pompey could be saved.

‘For every battle fans have witnessed there have been 10 behind the scenes.

‘But we didn’t give up.

‘We all fought on and momentum grew.

‘As well as the right result I really feel that this has been a triumph of Pompey spirit. I am so proud of everyone involved.’
