Gus Poyet has shrugged off suggestions Brighton will be favourites for tomorrow's FA Cup showdown.
The League One leaders have a six-point gap at the top of the table and have been tipped by some to oust their south coast neighbours.
But Poyet insists it is unfair on Pompey to label them as underdogs.
He said: 'You cannot make Brighton favourites when six months ago we were in a relegation battle and they were a Premier League team.
'I think it's just because of the way we are playing and what is going on over there.
'You need to be realistic – they are the better team.
'We are in good form, so that can make the difference between us. Then it comes down to how you play and the decisions you make.
'But to make us favourites is being really unfair to Portsmouth.
'They have got Premiership players playing in the Championship.
'They have got real quality in terms of ability and individuals who can go and win a game on their own, so it could be a good test.
'We are still a League One team.
'I don't remember any League One team from my time in England reaching the final of the FA Cup.
'It's nice to dream but there is a big difference between dreaming and being stupid.'
Poyet also insists he will not make major changes to his side, despite their form in League One.
He said: 'I promise the fans I am not going to change too much but there will be two or three changes.
'I don't know Portsmouth's approach for this game but it's up to us to keep playing our way, to keep getting better and give the fans something else to celebrate.'
